On Monday night, the Lynnwood City Council unanimously approved the ordinances to authorize its long-term water plan and updates to its critical area ordinance.There were no follow-up questions or concerns from the council prior to both votes.
Each ordinance was handled with separate ordinances. The long-term plan, which includes $53 million in repairs, for the water utility was motioned by council vice president Derica Escamilla and seconded by council member Bryce Owings before it passed 6-0 (council member Isabel Mata was absent for this meeting). As for the critical area ordinance update, it was council member Robert Leutwyler that motioned the ordinance and Escamilla that seconded it before it also passed 6-0.
The long-term water plan includes $53 millions in required repairs over the next decade. Council president Nick Coelho advised Public Works director Jared Bond that he appreciated the effort that his team had put into keeping generational equity in mind as they put together the list of repairs and upgrades that are needed for the water system.
As for the critical area ordinance, the was no feed back from the council or the public after the public hearing. The new ordinance streamlines existing definitions and exemptions to make it easier for residents to understand; while it also makes Lynnwood’s critical area regulations more consistent with neighboring jurisdictions so that it’s more predictable for developers and builders.
The City Council is now on their summer recess and once they return in early September, the bi-annual budget cycle process will begin.
